The Perfected Day Before
The day before Thanksgiving, I set the table and lay out the serving platters and add a small card with the name of each dish, so that nothing is forgotten in the fridge. Setting up the buffet is so helpful for when guests arrive and want to help you get dinner served. The serving utensils are set in place as well.
I prep the bar by slicing limes and lemons and make a batch of simple syrup or go ahead and make my batch cocktails if needed. Wine that needs to be chilled goes in the fridge and I fill up 2 large zip lock bags with extra ice for the bar and tuck them in the garage freezer until guests arrive.
On Wednesday, I also prep any vegetables so on Thanksgiving day I can enjoy my family and friends as much as possible. My cranberry sauce is always made ahead, as is my cornbread dressing.
Go over your menu one last time, and check all your ingredients to make certain everything is in place. And don’t forget that turkey, he should be well thawed and resting in the fridge.
I set aside 2 hours to run last minute errands: pick up flowers, desserts from the local baker, grab my dry cleaning, etc. As far as the house, I dust everything, check the powder room to be certain it is fresh, tidy, and well stocked with tissues, soap and fresh flowers.
To recap the day before plan:
- Set the table
- Set and label serving dishes and utensils
- Prep the bar and chill the wine
- Check the menu
- Prep veggies and extras
- Turkey!
- Housekeeping and last minutes
Take a deep breath, grab a bit of fresh air and relax. Prepare to enjoy to your Thanksgiving knowing you have everything in place and flawlessly planned.
Have a wonderful holiday!
